about

My Friend the Murderer follows Brodie's 2005 harmony laden Beautiful Crimes and takes a left turn from the sunny disposition found in that album, preferring instead to reference some of his darker work with the Broken Arrows. "I wanted to make an album with a bit of punch to it", said Brodie recently,"..to look at what happens when the great Australian dream falls apart and write about characters who feel lost and alienated from everybody and everything."

credits

released 22 July 2011
Containing eleven tracks, My Friend the Murderer was recorded live at Headgap Studios in Preston, Melbourne during 2010 by engineer Brent 'Sloth' Punshon (Adalita/The Nation Blue) with Brodie's new band, Dan Brodie & the Grieving Widows featuring Brodie on guitar and vocals, Dave Nicholls (Ian Rilen/Spencer P.Jones) on drums and Chris Brodie (Broken Arrows) on bass and lapsteel. Played with a sparseness of instrumentation, Brodie has created a classic Australian rock n roll record, lyrically channelling the troubled obsessions of people whose love has turned into hate, with disastrous consequences for all. Also featuring a support cast of Katie Harris, the Dacios' Linda J, and avant-garde saxophonist Adam Simmons on three tracks, My Friend the Murderer is the sound of when it all comes apart at the seams.
